The Taranaki Daily News Half Marathon is best described as “Undulating but Scenic”.
The loop course starts on Mason Drive, outside the TSB Stadium turning left down Gover Street then left down Fillis Street a right down Liardet Street turning left on to Vivian Street one way , past the NPDC Offices, to turn left up Morley Street to a right turn up Barrett Street then turn left on Cutfield Road then right onto Tukapa Street.
Proceed along the full length of Tukapa Street until rising up onto Frankley Road, there follows a series of undulations and a steady climb to Hurworth Road . A left turn on to Hurworth Road, which marks the Half Way point. Continue the length of Hurworth Road and turn left onto Carrington Road where toilet facilities are available – along with the teams change over point .
This is the highest point of the run and now you will enjoy a pleasant return to the city with great views of the countryside.
Ratanui hill on the way down will provide a small challenge close to the city limits – continuing on down Carrington Street.
This is where the course alters for 2010 :By the Carrington Street/Tarahua Rd intersection ( Gasoline Alley Service Station ) round-about carry straight onto Brooklands Road, then turn right onto Upjohn Street which then merges into Coronation Avenue down the Avenue towards the sea turning left into Saddle Row to be directed towards the Finish Line in front of the La Mere Lounge Grandstand at the Pukekura Raceway.
